"Excellent service at Royal Victoria Infirmary Newcastle."

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was attending a day clinic to be operated on for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I arrived , was taken into the ward of 6 beds and offered a cup of tea. The tea arrived on a nice tray with biscuits and I was checked for blood pressure and told exactly the procedure. During the waiting time I checked regularly to see if I was o.k. My visit to the loo was good, there were notices advising me to use provided wipes on the seat before and after I used the toilet and where to dispose of wipes. There were instructions for when to wash my hands and where to find alcohol rub to use when re- entering ward. Excellent. Staff were attentive, informative and did their best to allay any fears or questions I might want answered. The Theatre staff were helpful and made me feel relaxed. They spoke to me during the procedure and told me to let them know if I felt any pain. What a wonderful experience. I have to have my other hand done and will not be worried at all. They even allowed me to use their telephone to advise my Husband when he could collect me from Hospital. Marks : 11 out of ten. Well done and thank you.
