"Answering the phone"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

on 15th October 2014, I rang the main hospital phone number - 0191 482 0000 - after the initial recorded greeting all I got was the phone ringing and then after a time I was cut-off. This happened continuously between 07.30am and 10.45am. At that point I decided that it would be easier to drive to the hospital ( 18 miles ) and make my query in person.

We're sorry to hear that you were unable to get in touch with us via our switchboard number. We've sent your comments on to our telecommunications team to look into the issue, but initial investigations don't reveal any reason you shouldn't have got through, so we can only apologise. Thanks for taking the time to leave us some feedback, and we will be looking into the matter further to try and improve our service for patients in future.
