Today I just got discharged from HRI and arrived home safe and well. , I have every confidence that the surgeons at HRI saved my life yesterday after suffering appendicitis. I was incredibly frightened, and the staff were incredibly informative about the illness and the surgery. They were very understanding of my apprehension, and were incredibly empathetic. As appendicitis is life threatening, I found the surgeons to be realistic about the situation with me, and how ill I was/was becoming unless they operated immediately. I'm 100%confident that the staff at a&e and SAU surgical assessment unit saved my life yesterday. I am a mother to a 2 1/2 year old child, and was absolutely terrified that the appendicitis could have killed me, very quickly had HRI's A&E department and the SAU been there for me locally. I drove to the hospital's a&e department at 1pm on 12/10/14 had that a&e unit not been there, I would have had to drive to halifax or worse phone an ambulance to be taken to Leeds. Which could have been frightening for my 2 1/2 year old daughter Jessica. Reading in recent news that this hospital was at risk of closure of the a&e department absolutely petrifies me. Had it not been for the services of this hospital, I would have been in agonising pain to travel further. My appendicitis came on very suddenly and agonisingly. This hospital saved my life without a doubt.
