"Elderly Mother"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

My 91 year old Mother was admitted after a fall and due to her immobity was kept in DRI for "an overnight stay" which turned out to be a stay of approx 3 weeks during which time she was "encouraged" to go the toilet in her continence pad. She then went to Tickhill Road Hospital for rehabilitation and by that time she was there was so reliant on going to the toilet in the bed. The first time it happened she rang the bell and as no one came to assist her she passed urine and faeces in the pad. She was devasted and when the Assistant finally came to assist her she said "well we are busy, its ok to go in your pad". This is not acceptable and is obviously due to a lack of staff but there is no excuse for this. Many of the staff were very nice and kind during my Mothers stay, although some of the Nurses did have attitude problems which really ought to be addressed.
