"Absolutely wonderful care. Cannot thank you..."

About: York Hospital

I was admitted to York maternity unit as an emergency 7 weeks ago and I have only fantastic words to say about the care I received and the incredible staff that I was lucky enough to have caring for me. I was admitted with low platelet levels at 37 weeks pregnant and it was quickly determined that I was suffering from HELLP syndrome. The team looking after me kept us informed of the best course of action for my care at every point and we felt very involved in their decision making process. Every possible decision and possible outcome was explained to us clearly and calmly which helped us to remain calm and we were happy for them to do whatever was safest for my baby and me. The consultant in overall charge of my care conducted my cesarean section and explained things so clearly to us that we didn't really have any questions and was utterly professional and reassuring throughout. I felt completely at ease in their care. All of the midwives were absolutely fantastic. We didn't realise the full extent of their role and the amount of aftercare they provide. They were all extremely professional and have an incredible depth of knowledge. They were the vital link between themselves and other departments involved in the care of my baby and myself. They were calm, friendly and reassuring at all times which is astounding in such a high pressure situation. It was an incredibly serious situation for a few hours and there are not enough adjectives to explain how in grateful we are to them and how in awe I am of them. We cannot thank everyone involved in our care enough and literally couldn't have got through an emotional few days without them. I'd especially like to thank the midwives ( thank you for my toast!) and also the most brilliant HCA. I will forever defend the NHS to anyone who complains about it within my hearing. It is an incredible entity of which we should all be proud. You have incredibly talented and experienced people working for you at York and I am incredibly lucky to have been looked after so well that neither myself nor my baby needed any additional treatment such as ICU or SCBU which was a very real possibility. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
