I had the misfortune to suffer an incisional hernia; fortunately, I had the good fortune to be treated at Derby Royal Hospital. The hospital is clean and well equipped but, just as important, it employs staff who are kind, patient and imaginative in their care. From the cheerful porter , who wheeled me about without complaint, to the empathetic health care assistant, who went off to find a gown to fit my overweight frame ,to the consultant , who took care to explain the hazards of operating on obese patients, my care on SAU was fantastic. I had a similar experience when I reached the Step Down ward , where my recovery was enhanced by careful, sensitive nursing and physiotherapy. I should like to thank everyone involved in my care.
"Good Fortune."
