"My dad's painful death at Queens hospital, Romford"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

(as a relative),

My dad died in severe pain and suffering which I believe could have been alleviated had it not been a bank holiday weekend. The staff required were not available for the 3 days and the skeleton staff that were there, seemed inadequately trained and apparently unable to help.

For 3 days he suffered immense pain and basically nothing was done, except administer the obviously inadequate pain relief that he'd been recommended on the Friday before the place appeared to almost shut down for the bank holiday weekend.

On the Tuesday morning lots of help arrived. The outreach team, palliative care nurse, x-ray done etc. However, this was all too late.

He died in agony that afternoon. It was a most traumatic death.

I think things would have been very different had the help arrived during the weekend, when it was so desperately needed.

I’m so sorry to hear your news and that you feel the shortage of staff over the weekend impacted on the amount of care that was given to your father. I really want to investigate this further for you. Please contact me via our PALS team on 01708 435 454 or email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk. Yours sincerely Nadeem Moghal Medical Director
