"As soon as I arrived at the hospital ..."

About: Burnley General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

As soon as I arrived at the hospital I was seen to immediately. I was nervous and afraid of what was ahead of me but they were patient and caring. I had everything explained to me, all the procedures that were ahead of me. When I was down in the theatre before my operation, I was made to feel at ease and again had everything explained to me. They were professional but caring at all times. After my operation I was looked after to the highest standard. I was in a lot of pain and needed assistance the first day and night and most of the next day, but I was again cared for and monitored all the time. I never felt I was a number but a human being. The nurses worked so hard all the time as I was on a female sugical ward with patients coming in and out all through the days and emergencies coming in duing the night. No matter how many times the patients pressed for assistance, there was always a nurse to care and sort out any pain or discomfort. I am truely grateful for all the help I received from my Surgeon and his Medical Team. I was treated with dignaty and respect at all times. I had a Mastectomy and after a week I had to go back to theatre to remove a blood clot. I was upset and weary but again I was cared for and my stay made more bearable by all the staff nurses and the auxuillaries , who always were so cheerful and brought a smile to my face when I was really at my lowest. I just want to say thankyou to them all on Phase 5 at Burnley General. All of the staff are so busy but so professional and I always felf very safe in their hands. Anyone waiting for treatment at this hospital should be reassured that they will be treated with the highest care and medical treatment that they would wish for.

What could be improved

Sometimes I thought that they could use extra nurses in the evening as there seemed to be a lot of emergencies through some nights. Having said this, all the patients were all attended to professtionally.

Anything else?

Just my gratitude for the care I received during my long stay in making it a little more bearable, I would have sent this sooner but I am still coming to terms with my situation and I have only just seen this page on my laptop. Also I want to thank all the breast care nurses who have spoke to me about my medical problems both physically and mentally. Without them I don't think I could have come this far on my own. I am never alone as I know they are at the end of the line for me. I would like to especially thank my care nurse who got me through some bad times after I got home, I know I just have to ring. There was a nurse who always had a smile and such a friendly but professional nature, this was at the beginning while I was being diagnosed at Suite 3, also she was there when I received my all clear results. These are all qualities the staff and all the carers at Burnley General have. All those I have ever had to meet I shall always be grateful to.
