"Some of the staff were nice with ..."

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Some of the staff were nice with a caring attitude.

What could be improved

The level of cleanliness and resource on wards. I stayed on the Gynaecology ward as an Orthopedic patient. The levels of cleanliness and the attitude towards this by the staff was both shocking and frightening, I've never witnessed anything like it, nor wish to again!! One lady in the bed next to me dropped her knife and fork - a nurse on the ward saw this and simply picked up the cutlery (from the ditry floor!!!) and gave it back to her for her to continue with her meal. A day later another elderly lady on the ward had an accident, her colostomy bag burst - the smell was disgusting & very strong, the poor lady was left cover in her own extrament for an hour and a half - they tucked in her covers and served her breakfast to her - madness, shocking, upsetting, disgusting - I wouldn't treat an animal like this!

Medical hand sanitiser that was to be used by all staff doing observations - the bottle was empty and for 2 consecutive days staff went thru the motions of using the sanitiser that was EMPTY!!!!!!!!!!! I would never wish to visit this ward or hospital again if I had the choice, in my opinion there is NO EXCUSE for behaviour like this, it's disgraceful, no wonder there are so many hospital super bugs, it's a wonder no-one has died on this ward due to the lack of care and attention of the staff on here. What a mess....what does my NI contributions pay for exactly!?!??!!?!?!? Absolutely Horrendous!!!!

Anything else?

Isn't that enough ... something needs to be done before someone becomes very ill as a result of the behaviour above!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for providing comments about our services. We aim to provide high quality services for all of our patients, and we are very disappointed to hear that your experience has not matched up to the standards that we set for all of our patients.

Your concerns have been raised with the wards concerned.

If anyone has concerns about the quality of care we urge them to talk at the time to a senior member of staff (e.g. the nurse in charge) or our Patient Advice and Liaison Service. There are Patient Advice and Liaison Services at both hospitals. At RSH this is located near the main ward entrance. At PRH it is located near the main hospital entrance. Most concerns can be addressed immediately.

Since this national website is anonymous your contact details are not shared with the hospital. However, we would like to be able to look into the issues you have raised in more detail so we would be very grateful if you would contact the Trust so we can look into this further. Our Patient Advice and Liaison Service can be contacted on 0800 783 0057, or more information about how to raise comments and concerns about our services can be found on our website at www.sath.nhs.uk

Feedback from patients and relatives helps us to continue to improve the safety and effectiveness of our services, and the experience of our patients. Thanks again for taking the time to raise your concerns.
