I had a hip replacement in Sept 2014 in Borders General Hospital. Within 2 weeks of returning home I had a UTI and the bacteria is Pseudomonas. I have had many UTI's before but they have always been E. Coli. I am waiting for results of a second test to confirm the bacteria and then I'm told the only treatment is Gentamicin given in hospital. My GP freely admitted that I likely acquired it while in hospital (though I did not have a catheter).
Gentamicin can have debilitating side effects and I react to so many drugs. I am concerned that I will react to it.
I'm really scared and not being given much information. It will be Monday before the second test result comes through. Meantime - I don't know if I can pass it to anyone else.
