"Crack your bones - Oh no you didn't"

I have to start by saying I am one of these people who never requires medical attention. I was absolutely amazed last night at how I was treated in A&E. I fell down my bottom 2 steps last night, and heard a crack and was in agony. After a few minutes I called 111 and they sent a non emergency ambulance to take me to A&E. I got dumped in the waiting room, and waited 2 hours to be triaged in the waiting room in front of a packed audience. It was so embarrassing, I was made to feel like I was exaggerating. The nurse called me out and was surprised when I said you will have to pull me in there, I can't walk to which she huffed, puffed and pulled me through the doors knocking my ankle. Absolutely no apology (I am now convinced she done it deliberately). She had a quick (painful) prod, said oh its not swollen (it is and I asked her if she was looking at a different ankle to me!) and its not broken so you need to walk on it and it will get better. When I told her I heard a crack, she said bones don't 'crack'. So anyway, I hobbled out (no offer of a hand to get me anywhere). I have been in agony all day, and I just keep telling myself it will get better. Went on NHS website to read for any suggestions to find it says 'ankle bones will crack if broken, or pop if sprained'. So I was made to feel like I exaggerated when in fact I was probably right. I am giving it until the morning and will go to my GP, I hope they don't make me feel as foolish as lister A&e have done. My only ever experience with them was a year ago when my father attended due to severe pain in his ribs after a fall - to which he was told to take nurofen. When he came hone I was shocked, he is a heart failure patient and is not allowed to take nurofen under any circumstances. I put that down to a one off but it seems the Lister is a very poorly understaffed and non caring hospital who just want rid of everyone. I'd be scared to ever go back there again regardless of the pain I am in.

We're really sorry your experience of the Lister's emergency department service was not what you expected or wanted. Although the waiting area is temporary - the new, much bigger one, opens on 9 October - you still deserve to be treated with dignity at all times.
