I have just had ENT surgery at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. My scheduled surgery on the 13th was cancelled with just under 2 weeks to go, but they were able to fit me in on the 3rd. I arrived at 7.30 am to admissions suite, I was 4th on the list which meant I was not expected to go down until 2pm, so it was a long wait. However I appreciated being able to stay in my own clothes until nearer my appointed time. I was given a named nurse who looked after me until I left the admissions suite, spoke to one of the surgeons on the Consultants team and two 2 anaesthetists that morning, so plenty of opportunity to ask questions, all of which were answered. I was escorted to theatre by another nurse and handed to another named nurse in the theatre. Everything was explained comprehensively and when I awoke in Recovery a couple of hours later, I had one - to -one nursing care, a visit from both the consultant and anaesthetist, before being transferred to the day surgery unit, where once again I was given a named nurse. Initially I had been scheduled for an over night admission, but as I had an uneventful recovery and uncomplicated procedure was able to go to the day surgery unit before discharge later in the evening. The care I received in my short stay was exemplary, top class and I could not have wanted for better. Everyone was friendly, polite, caring, efficient and professional. The hospital was evidently clean. Well done Gloucestershire Royal, a beacon in the NHS.
