What I liked
I have today written to the Chairman of the Trust. The letter follows:
It seems fashionable these days to criticise NHS hospitals so it is with great pleasure that I write to thank you for the excellent care I have received and continue to receive from the staff at the Bristol Eye Hospital.
I had a cataract removed before Christmas, a check up a few weeks later and some laser treatment on Tuesday. I am presently putting in drops to deal with a residual ache and minor pain and will be receiving another follow up appointment in the next few weeks.
At every stage of my treatment I have found all the staff courteous, helpful, understanding of my nervousness, skilful and extremely kind.
The receptionists were welcoming and helpful, and the nurses were compassionate and reassuring. The doctors were not only obviously at the top of their profession but were clear and concise in their instructions to me, carefully explained every stage of the treatment, clearly informed me of the hoped for outcome and possible risks and, though horrendously busy, never made me feel rushed and they gave me as much time as was necessary. Everyone I have seen at the hospital treated me as an important individual.
All those who work at or are responsible for managing and running the Bristol Eye Hospital should be congratulated for the very high standards they maintain.
I cannot pretend I am looking forward to having my other eye done – but the prospect no longer fills me with the terror and dread I felt before the first operation.
Thank you very much indeed.
