"Trapped hand!!"

About: The Maidstone Hospital

I had to take my 4 yr old son to Maidstone A&E as he trapped his hand in the car door as it closed (ouch!). Lots of swelling and bruising so I suspected he had broke bones. I expected to be waiting hours to see someone as it was Sunday evening and had been good weather that day so lots of people out and about! We waited 50 mins and we were seen by the triage nurse who was great! She asked what had happened and examined my sons hand, sent him to x ray where we didn't have to wait at all. We were then seen by the same nurse again who assured us that there were no major breaks but there was a suspect area at the lateral end of his first metacarpal. But it could be due to swelling and bruising. So strapped up, pain relief and we were back home eating roast dinner by 6pm! To be reviewed at the fracture clinic in a weeks time. The A&E department had been busy that afternoon but the staff worked to clear the back log. Everyone we saw in the department was professional and patient even though they had a hectic day by all accounts. Many thanks Archie and his dad.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your positive feedback following your son's recent A&E attendance. We hope that your son has made a speedy recovery. We have forwarded on your kind compliments to the Matron for A&E and the Clinical Director of A&E and know that the staff involved in your son's care will be very grateful to receive your positive feedback. Once again, thank you for taking this time. With kind regards. The PALS Team.
