I went here with appendicitis in August 2013, was admitted through A&E to the surgical assessment ward. On this ward staff were very friendly and I was looked after well. However, after the appendectomy, I was transferred to a different ward, on this ward I was handed dirty cutlery with my food. When I told the nurse, I was told I would be better off if I discharged myself then I wouldn't get an infection. I never received any fresh cutlery until over half an hour later when they came to take it away (at this point the food was cold so I couldn't eat it anyway).
Later that day I did end up leaving only to come back a week later with an infection to the same ward.
This time I stayed on the ward for a week with nobody informing me what was going on or how long I was going to be there.
This only changed when a porter came and told me I was moving wards (it was only for the night as it turns out).
When I moved back to the original ward I didn't have time to inform my family so my mother went to the wrong ward and despite not showing any identification as to who she was the nurse told her which ward I was on and handed her my medical notes to take with her.
Me and my mother don't have a close relationship anyway so you can imagine my shock at the time to hear my mother had read my notes on her way to the ward and knew more about my care and medical history than I did!
