A close relative is currently in Willows ward at The Priory Hospital, Cheadle Royal. He's not happy about being detained there as he does not agree that he has a psychiatric problem but he agrees that the treatment is better than he received at another hospital in his home area. As Nearest Relatives under the MH act we've had much better communication with this hospital and have received the statutory notifications (none from his previous admissions elsewhere) and have been kept informed of progress. When we visit we're treated well and by our observations our relative is treated fairly and with respect. He tells us that his Dr has engaged in discussion and negotiation with him about medications. He has made very positive comments about the food and seems to be making good progress. His biggest complaints are boredom and that they only have terrestrial TV channels. I have to be circumspect in my comments for confidentiality reasons but as outsiders looking in we think the staff seem to be excellent and the care is very good. Thank you!
