"Well taken care of."

About: St Mary's Hospital (HQ) (London)

I was admitted in july 2014 with a crushed hand and arm after i was hit by a lorry. The staff on major trauma ward took great care of me i was in great pain, but the pain team were called and my dosages were increased and this helped greatly. At all time the staff were open, professional but most importantly caring and sympathetic. I was then moved to the valentine ellis ward where i spent the next 2 weeks, they were wonderful to me, very pleasant people, who only cared about doing the best they could to help me and ease my pain. The nurses were so caring and helpful i wished i could have stayed longer i felt so well looked after and i would never have a bad word said against the doctors and nurses or the vaentine ellis ward or the NHS. The Trauma i recieved was significant i have be disfigured, i have half a thumb, half an index finger and my wrist was shattered, and my nerves and tendons were majorly damaged. But despite all this damage and pain, i will look back on my visit to valentine ellis with a smile because despite how bad my injuries, the staff helped me to feel good, they made smile and laugh and i felt that no matter how bad things are i was alive and i could still enjoy my life. The staff i had thr most contact with will remain n my mind and heart fondly because they made me feel good and better again and the care they showed was amazing. The consultants i had the pleasure of dealing with in the plastics team were most professional, they explained what would be happening to me gave me options in my care and advised me of their benefits and disadvantages. The work they have done i would say is miraculous, after my accident i honestly believed i would lose my hand, but the plastics team were able to reconnstruct the damaged parts or my hand they could save and i have the possibility of getting some use out of my hand in the future. Im truly in awe of what the have done for me and i will never be able to repay them. I have been truly blessed to have had the skill and expertise of the staff of St Marys Hospital helping me in the darkest hour of my life. But they have helped me to continue my life and i feel more confident with there help and support. Though despite all this good, there is one negative point i must raise, which does not fall on the staff, but the management of these departments. During my stay in valentine i observed alot of things. i observed staff rushing around trying to get tasks done and dealing with patient requests and needs. Now i understand a ward is busy, but what confuses me is monday to friday you have a higher staff level and on the weekends you have less. So does the amount of patients decreaseat the weekends, no! so why decrease the staffing level it makes no sense and it puts stress on the nurses trying to do their best for the patients.
