"Sunderland Day Care Chaos"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

A young women in my care recently had her tonsils removed in the Sunderland Day Care Unit. It started with her not being allocated a bed until 11:00am, three and a half hours after being told to arrive and just a few minutes before being taken to theatre. The notices say "this is a single sex facility" this was certainly not the case with men in both the beds opposite her in the bay. This vulnerable young women was not asked if she was ok with this. In theatre she was obviously handled without much care. There was a small cut just inside her mouth and 3 weeks after surgery she had to have her jaw released by a chiropractor. The information given to her for aftercare was sadly lacking and had she not been living with a medical professional wouldn't have had a clue about what she needed to do, eat or drink to aid her recovery.
