I have 2 sons with an 18 month age gap. Sure Start has helped me from day one with behaviour problems with my son and continue to do so, for which I'm eternally grateful. They set me up with many home visits and support as well as putting me forward for a home start volunteer that came to our home to help me with my children.
The most resent help I have received from Sure Start is great persistence on their part to help me gain the 2 year funding for my younger son so he can go to pre school. I was originally told that I did not qualify but after speaking to Geraldine at Bingham Sure Start we established we should be eligible and so she set to work on finding out why it was a no.
After 2 weeks of continually calling the council we finally got it sorted and I now have confirmation that my son is eligible and can go to pre school. Without her persistence not only would I have given up and waited till my son was 3 I also would not of discovered there had been a problem with my tax credit renewal which, as a result, has also been sorted out and I got a backdate award.
I can't stress how important I think Sure Start is without them as I have suffered with depression since the birth of my first son and they have helped me feel like I'm not alone and will help me if I have a bad day. I would be lost as they help support me in so many ways as well as providing a place to take my sons for a couple of hours each week to get them out of the house.
