"Sent home too soon after my hysterectomy"

About: Royal United Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I had to have a full hysterectomy a year and a half ago due to growth in my womb.

I went to Bath royal united oct 07 to have my op early in the morning. There was no bed so waited all day with no food or drinks allowed. Finally got a bed late afternoon and went straight into theatre. Next thing i knew was when i was back in bed with my family there.

The surgeon came see me next day and said he would come and see me on the monday as this was on the thurs or fri, so i thought i would be able stay weekend in hospital to recover. When i was up and out of bed i thought i'd go down to main entrance as Victor Meldrew was doing autographs etc, and raising money for the baby unit.

No, nurses told me i wasn't allowed to walk that far so i went down and back ok and next day was sat, nurse came round, checked my wound said i had to go home as they had no room for me so i had to leave, and expect my pensioner mom, who is also disabled, to take care of me.

Which she did, but i had nothing but trouble. My wound got infected and opened again so i had constant trips to hospital and GP's to have dressing changed and wound cleaned. I couldn't walk far now, my muscles in my stomach are not working right so i now suffer back pain and stomach pain. I will never go to Bath royal united again for treatment.
