I have just experienced a frightening condition being unable to eat or drink anything because I was unable to swallow ( I thought I had a piece of meat stuck in my throat ) and being Diabetic this made the condition even more urgent . My wife rang NHS direct who advised we get to a hospital ASAP we followed their advice and went to Poole Hospital A&E. At A&E I explained the condition and that my Diabetic reading was very low and although there was a 2 hour wait I was fast tracked to A&E wards via a very professional nurse where they treated me very well and tried a few things but decided that I should go to the Ear Nose & Throat ward B2 for investigation after an X ray. On arriving at Ear Nose & Throat ( Ward B2 ) every thing was ready for me in the treatment room, I had the doctor examine me he asked me a lot of questions and then examined the inside of my throat using a camera. His diagnosis was that it was not a piece of meat stuck in my throat but a thrush condition I think it's called candiasi ( Candida ). The doctor and his staff were absolutely superb as was their attitude and professionalism. I was then transferred to my bed and very soon a drip was set up to both control my diabetes and keep me hydrated all the staff on ward B2 from the Doctors Nurses Auxiliary staff right down to the cleaners were amazing very caring and professional and the night staff were just well superb. In 24hrs I could eat drink swallow and my diabetes was under complete control what can I say but amazing. Before I was released I was examined again by another Doctor again using a camera to examine the inside of my throat where he said that I was now fine but arranged for a further examination in a months time. Again this Doctor and his staff were very knowledgeable professional and caring with a great attitude that put me completely at ease. Although I am very nearly 72 this was my first stay ever in hospital and I would like to say a massive thank you to every one who put me back together again very very quickly at Ear Nose & Throat Ward B2 Poole Hospital. Thank you Peter M Pollard
"Just amazing"
