After holidaying on the South Coast last week, my 81 year old husband suffered a fall whilst we were taking a coach stop at Beaconsfield services last Friday on our way home to the north. . A paramedic just happened to be visiting the services and gave first aid to my husbands injured hand but said that it was imperative that we visit an emergency dept asap. The coach we were travelling on had to continue its journey (along with our luggage) to Cheshire and we were left to call a taxi which delivered us to Wexham Park just before noon. We were totally in shock, had no idea just where we were or how we were going to get home as my husband needs a wheelchair. Then along came this nurse who not only attended the wounds but took total control of our situation. After a cup of tea she asked whether we had insurance, which we had, and suggested I phone the Insurance company. After just a few words, she asked if she could speak to them on our behalf which she did ...... arranged for claim forms to be faxed to the hospital .... filled in all of the necessary medical information then faxed them back. It was several hours later and more tea, that not having heard anything they phoned again insisting that no it was absolutely inappropriate for my husband and I to find our own way home on public transport and to then submit receipts! The outcome of their efforts was that albeit after 7.00pm we were provided with a taxi to drive us the almost 200 miles home. We were provided with food and drink during our wait but we cannot state enough just how grateful we are to this caring wonderful nurse for, despite caring for other patients, went far above and beyond her nursing duties to help a very grateful couple. Thank you, we will never forget your kindness..
"Saved by an absolute angel!"
