"Knee surgery trauma and orthopaedic dept"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

I have just come home from a 2 night stay in the Derby royal hospital for very complex knee surgery. Arrived at the hospital on mon 22nd sept for 7:30 admission & was told I was first to go to theatre at 8:30am. I was preped for surgery by the nurse, met the registrar & the anethatist and then by 8:10am the porter was there to take me to theatre, my surgery was to be done under spinal which I was quiet scaried about but the anethatist was fantastic & spoke to me throughout the op to take my mind off of it. After surgery & recovery I was taken to ward 207 & then after a few hours moved to ward 206 were I spent 2 nights. The staff on ward 206 where really good but on a couple of occasions they were understaffed which put the other staff under more pressure & ment it took awhile to get dressings changed etc, I experienced one occasion were it took 7 hours to get my dressing changed. I was very suprised by the food in this hospital as it was actually very good, with plenty of choice. Highly recommend my consultant & the other people involved in the T & O department. Thanks guys

Thank you for your kind feedback. I am delighted to hear that you were pleased with the care you received and that you were happy with the food and facilities on offer. I will ensure your feedback is passed onto the relevant staff - they will be delighted to hear that they offered you good care. Regarding your comment about staffing levels on Ward 206, I can assure you our wards do have safe staffing levels in line with government guidance. However, we do acknowledge that, at busy times, it can be challenging for staff. We are working with a range of staff groups to continuously improve our services. Thank you again for your feedback. Kind regards Sarah Todd, Patient Experience Manager Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
