"Amazing experience"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Firstly I would like to thank the 2 midwives who were absolutely amazing during my labour in May. As I first time mum I arrived pretty nervous and in a lot of pain to find I was 8cm dilated. A midwife quickly helped control my breathing and made myself and my partner extremely comfortable. I was so happy to be able to have the water birth I wanted so much. The room was wonderful, relaxing, calm, clean and inviting. I felt respected by the midwives and there care towards us was wonderful. Labour happened pretty quickly and my beautiful girl was soon in my arms. I trusted them completely during labour and they helped calm my nerves of anything going wrong. I feel the whole experience was absolutely amazing- and that's due to the care received whislt in labour and before we left to go home as a family. I would have loved to have read my maternity notes to discover parts of my labour that I don't remember (gas and air!!!) and to fill in gaps that I would love to know. I'm currently trying to find out if it's possible to request my maternity notes to do this. Thank you all X

Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl and thank you, for such a kind review of our maternity services. Our Midwifery-Led Unit has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment and it really is pleasing to hear that the changes have had such a positive impact on the birthing experiences of our mums-to-be. We are glad that you were able to have the water birth that you wanted and that you found your surroundings calming and inviting. Giving birth can be a daunting experience and having a team of midwives that help to keep you calm and respect your decisions really does help. To access your maternity records you can contact our Health Records Department on telephone: 01384 456111 (ext. 1390), who will then tell you about what you need to do to obtain a copy of your notes. Your comments have been forwarded to our Maternity Department where staff have received them with thanks.
