Absolutely appalling. Was given no information on the ward which meant relying on staff at the centre. Appointment made by one member of staff for 11.30am, told some paperwork not available by a different member of staff so not to go. 2 hours on phone calling to try and find out when we could collect paperwork and register death. Phone never answered just ringing or engaged. Managed to leave a message by going through switchboard, early morning call by abrupt member of staff to say appointment was still made and nobody by the name of staff that cancelled appointment and didn't recognise the number we had been given to call re death certificate. Long 'hike' to centre with mum in wheelchair to be sat in a room and an envelope sealed in front of us. Then told that no appointment made to register the death at same time so would need to make an appointment to come back! This is a Thursday and they don't work Fridays. Guess which number we were given. You guessed, the number nobody recognised, dad's property missing, as I sat in room trying to call to get an appointment while still in the centre as member of staff knew they had a vacancy later but couldn't tell us what time or book it!? We were basically told we could return to other public room and shown from private area. Left Kings Mill after paying £1.50 for the privilege and I drove to the registrars office on Chesterfield Rd. They booked the appointment back at kings Mill and told us everything we needed and were amazing. The counsellor hadn't even told us any useful information or anything about documents we needed. Back at kings mill for 1.30pm. Another long hike with mum in wheelchair. My mum is ill and not mobile and losing a loved one is a stressful time. There is no way she could have got there without me once let alone twice. Did I mention another £1.50 parking. Kings mill have opened a centre at goodness knows what cost, I'm sure with good intentions, but knowing what I do now I would rather travel to get a proper service from some caring staff not wearing luminous orange nail polish who actually 'bother' to take the time with you. I also had to then go up to the ward to collect his 'missing' property which wasn't missing. Totally stressed and not the sort of way I should be spending time rather than being able to grieve and remember my much loved dad.
