About: Macclesfield District General Hospital

After sliding off her bed, my mother who is 92, was taken to A&E yesterday morning at 7.30am. . By the time I arrived about 45mins later she had been assessed and was undergoing tests. A nurse kindly made me a cup of tea as I waited whilst mum was in x-ray. The doctor kept me informed of everything that was happening with mum and discussed future treatment & the results of the x-rays. Thankfully there was nothing major wrong and after applying small dressings to a couple of cuts arrangements were made to transport mum back to her care home in Wilmslow. The same nurse made mum a cup of tea as we waited. Shortly afterwards she came into the cubicle and advised us she was going on her break and we would probably have left before her return. She then thanked us for being co-operative patients and wished my mum a speedy recovery. I in turn thanked her for her attention and friendliness and rated her 'builders tea' 10/10 and far better than Wythenshawe or Stepping Hill as I / we haven't and never would be offered one in a similar situation. She said she appreciated the comments and left us. She then went to the next cubicle and wished the patient all the best for a speedy recovery. As I was leaving I asked one of the doctors who the nurse was and advised her of her kind gesture, to which she smiled and readily declared ' Yes, she's amazing and is always like that' It didn't take the nurse 30 secs to say what she did but it made mum & I think how refreshing for a personal touch. That is not to say the rest of the staff were anything other than polite, friendly & professional. This A&E department is head & shoulders better than others already mentioned. Yes you have to wait sometimes, especially for test results but patience is sadly something that more & more people are without. Everything has to be instant, now. If you have misfortune that requires you to attend A&E go with patience in mind as you wouldn't be doing anything else at that time...because you are ill or injured!! Yes it was not very busy, but 30 secs. of genuine care & attention is priceless & well worth any slight wait.
