"Poor triage care at Edinburgh's old infirmary"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

While on the loo (of all places) i was stricken by the most intense pain i have ever experienced. It was such that i thought i might die if i didn't get help. On calling for an ambulance i was asked why i couldn't just get a taxi.

When the ambulance staff finally left me in a corridor in A&E i waited a whole hour before i was placed in a cubicle in triage.

I then waited a further two hours before i was seen by a doctor and what can only be described as an eternity before someone, either in an adjoining cubicle or in the corridor, told a nurse that i was rambling insanely, and in an obviously severe amount of pain and why was i not being seen to?

When someone eventually came to administer pain relief he said he would have to check my anus for blood first and roughly pulled my underwear down, saying "F*** sake that's disgusting" and without warning forced his finger deep into my rectum very quickly, causing more pain.

I was then given an injection, X-rayed and placed on a ward for 5 days, where my requests for further pain relief were ignored and i was not given the chance to bathe or be washed until the day i was discharged without any subsequent testing since the X-ray.

This experience seemed to be shared by the other patients on the ward.
