"Western gen Acute Receiving Unit Edinburgh"

About: Western General Hospital (Edinburgh)

(as the patient),

I was taking pretty fast because of chest pain. The male staff nurse who was doing the triage assessment was pretty rude, and suggested I should have called my GP and went on to question me about why I had not done so... I was then asked to lie down on the bed for a heart trace to be done. I asked for the bed back to be put up as I was unable to lie flat because of a spinal condition, he again was rude and only done so when I said it was the only way I could get the trace done. He did the trace then walked away, saying the doctor would come along at some point and take blood if spine can stand up too it, he then walked off and I did not see him again.

The doctor was super as were the other nurses who were about, asking if they could get me anything and if I was ok etc. The student nurse was fantastic, attentive and brought me some water with the offer of more if I needed some. Pity that one staff nurse could not take a leaf out of the students book and act with patience and concern... I was starting to feel pretty annoyed and under-valued as a human being with his initial dealings, I am so pleased the other staff were not like him or followed his practice...
