"Felt the A+E was being badly managed"

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

I was taken by ambulance from my home as I was unable to put any weight on my left leg and was in dreadful pain! One quiery was blood clot . The ambulance crew were fantastic, friendly and caring. I arrived at the hospital into the " stop pit" where I was left for about 50 minutes before anyone came to see me and at first went to the bed next to me talking about my problem before the lady told him she didn't have a bad leg ...helps to check names first . I then had blood taken and left again for a further 30 minutes which is fine I understand how busy hospitals are. At this point no one had looked at my leg or offered me any pain relief. I was then moved into another area and told " the doctor will be with you very soon" just over 4 hours after I arrived my husband went to ask when I would be seen? The nurse said I wasn't on her list so she would find out for us. 30 minutes later a doctor arrived and said she hadn't been able to find me! I was shocked to say the least she couldn't have looked very hard as I was unable to move. Still no pain relief, she did a brief examination on my leg asked " if I'd like an X-ray" which I had and luckily there was no major problem which was just as well as I was kept waiting for almost five hours. I was discharged and told to visit my GP on the Monday to get some physiotherapy booked... when my GP looked at my notes there was nothing from the hospital . Lastly. it was very frustrating to be waiting so long without even an offer of pain relief but we could see a nurse just say reading a paper! Might have been her break but not a positive thing to see when you have been ignored for hours.

We are very sorry to read of your recent experience in our hospital and would like to thank you for taking the time to post your comments here. We are concerned to read the experiences you describe; our A&E department has been under considerable pressure recently but this clearly falls short of the high standards of care we expect for our patients. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you in more detail and invite you to call our Patient Experience Team who would be able to follow this up with you. In the meantime, we will ensure your comments are passed on to the A&E team. Thank you.
