"sent home with a ovarian cyst"

About: Lister Hospital

Suffering with severe abdominal pain I rushed to a&e to be seen to. I waited for over a hour and was sent to majors I had bloods taken and was asked to wait in waiting area. I was offered painkillers that I never received.I waited a further three hours and got up to ask the nurses how long the wait would be which they proceeded to look very confused and faffed around until they found my notes and told me it would be another 3 hours wait, by this time I was so tired I went home. The next day I returned as the pain had got significantly worse and I had bloods taken again and after battling through the 5 hour wait I was seen by a doctor who started by telling me they were very tired they had been on a 4 day shift and didn't understand anything that I was telling them they proceed to tell me that my inflammatory markers where not raised therefore I was obviously not in pain and I should go to my doctors in the morning as it was not a problem for a&e, but a problem my doctor could deal with. I was very upset at this time and very distressed as I was in excruciating pain and had to just go home without any answers and without even a sniff of any further tests. The next day the pain continued consistently worsening until I was overwhelmed with the pain hardly able to walk. I returned for the third time to a and e where my parter had to go in and find a nurse himself to see me. I waited over a hour to be seen again when finally after what felt like a life time a nurse came and saw Me and gave me some painkillers and took me into a sideroom where straight away I was out on a iv and given morphine with the doctors suspecting that it was my appendix. The days to come I was on constant pain relief and given a scan which showed I had a 5cm ovarian cyst which was causing all the discomfort but had also leaked fluid into my stomach causing extra irritation I was promptly put on a emergency list and has a ovarian cystexamy. Alot of the pain I went through could have been avoided if a & e just looked into my pain a little further and realised that I was lying to them as the doctor implied I now am very reluctant to use lister a&e and definitely would not recommend to anyone in urgent medical need.

We're very concerned about what happened during your recent use of the Lister's emergency department, which needs investigating if you have not made a complaint already. If not, then we would be very happy to help instigate this if you email us at generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net. Once again we're sorry that your experience of the Lister's emergency department was not good and we do hope that you will give us a chance to get things followed up for you.
