"I felt things were overlooked at Yeovil"

About: Yeovil District Hospital / Accident and emergency Yeovil District Hospital / Pain Management

(as the patient),

I woke up the morning after a migraine to find I was numb and had pins and needles all the way down my left side. I called the doctor who told me to go straight to hospital, he arranged transport for me and the medics were brilliant, really friendly and helpful, they made sure I was not to scared.

When I arrived at A and E how ever it was a different story. I was left sitting on a hard chair in the hall for ages until one of the medics decided to put me in a spare cubicle that was on the minors side of A and E, not where I should have been apperently. I was seen and was given next to no information about what was happeneing, only that it was not a stroke (which was a relief). Eventually I discharged myself with the advice to come back if it got worse.

The next day it was worse, so I went back to A and E and was taken straight to a ward, where the nurses and doctors were lovely and very helpful. I was then transferred to a ward, again where I should not have been, due to the hospital having no spare bed.

On this ward I was left most of the time and had to find nurses to get pain relief. It took me 2 hours at one point to get some paracetamol, the nurses did not know what was going on with my medical care, they couldn't answer my questions and didn't know anything about what I was in hospital for.

After 2 days and a lot of tests that I have to push for, as they kept saying they would do them in a few days time etc, I discharged myself at 10pm with no change in my symptoms because I have had enough of being somewhere where I felt I was not taken seriously. I still have the symptoms and no answer as to what has caused it. I have done some research and think it is down to the migraine.

I do not think Yeovil hospital is good, the staff do their best but due to the running of the hospital I feel that things are overlooked and patient care is not what it could be. This is just my personal opinion.
