"mixed review"

About: Leighton Hospital

On the morning of Thursday 18th September I started having contractions however they were around half an hour apart so obviously I felt no need to contact the hospital. By the time my waters broke at 5pm that night, my contractions were every 5 minutes, I rang the MLU as my pregnancy was low risk and they told me to come in. Whilst the midwife confirmed my waters had broken, she didn't seem to take into account that my contractions were regular and I was in considerable pain, her words were "if you were in established labour you would be making alot more noise" which I found hard to understand because no two labours are the same. Anyway after refusing to examine me she booked me in for induction at 6pm on the 19th Sept if I hadn't delivered by then and sent me home at 8pm, despite me voicing my concerns that it would be too late ny the time i got home and I had no transport during the early hours. By midnight my contractions were unbearable and I was getting a pressure in my bottom, which I now know was me needing to push but at the time I didn't know. My mum rang the MLU at least 4 times and explained what was happening and each time was told that "it didn't sound like i was in established labour" again because I wasn't screaming the place down. It was only when I went to the toilet and discarded pure blood that the MLU agreed to see me and in turn my mum caller an ambulance. Once at the hospital, I was wheeled in to a room on the labour ward suite and was introduced to my midwife aswell as another midwife that said because I had refused gas and air get ready to be sent home because I couldn't be in "proper labour" (degrading!). After explaining to my midwife that I had this sensation in my bottom, she examined me and determined I was ready to push and had been ready ever since the sensation started 3 hours ago. I was pushing for over 2 hours before my midwife and the labour ward co-ordinator asked if I would like to speak to the Dr about possible ways of guodong my daughter out, I agreed and what I was told by the Dr was very clear and all 3 members of staff that were with me when my baby was born with the help of ventouse helped keep me so relaxed I couldn't be more greatful, they were amazing. The care on ward 23 was also amazing, as Lucy had low oxygen from being ready to be born for so long, low blood sugar and a low temperature she needed a lot of obs and a heated mattress on the ward and everytime any obs were taken I was kept informed of the latest updates right away. All in all, once I was in hosptal and after I had delivered the care was outstanding, however to actually get somebody to believe the pain I was in and listen to me was much more difficult than it should have been and could have put my daughters life in danger.
