"We work way beyond our shifts"

About: Bristol PCT Southmead Hospital

(as a staff member),

What I find most upsetting is that if patients are not getting adequate care it is blamed on frontline staff - nurses - who are rushed off their feet trying to care for the patients.

On my ward nurses are working way beyond their shifts with not enough staff to cope for the needs of the patients. The nurses are upset, angry and feel like they are letting people down.

Then they get home, late, from a long shift, turn on the TV and are told that they are a bunch of lazy drunks spreading disease.

Of course there are bad nurses, but there are also amazing nurses who are doing a great job... then again, that wouldn't make good news.
