Hi, I had my gastroscopy (first one I've ever had) on 8th September. The nurse who checked me in was excellent - noticed I was really worried and took time to reassure me and make sure I knew any risks were very low. I opted for sedation and so he explained the risks associated with sedation but didn't put any pressure on me to change my mind. The endoscopist was wonderful - commented that I looked terrified, and made jokes to put me at ease and kept me talking about work and other things to take my mind off the procedure. The nurses in the recovery room afterwards were great - making sure I had something to eat and drink and once they knew my other half was around to pick me up got me discharged within about 10 minutes! Couldn't fault them at all. All the staff I encountered were lovely - even the ones not involved in my care at all. Carrie

Dear Carrie Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. It is always rewarding to hear positive stories from our patients and I believe it is helpful to other patients who are feeling anxious about having a procedure for the first time. Just like you, it is a natural response to be nervous about entering the unknown but our staff are experienced and can tell when patients are feeling anxious. As you have found out first hand there are a number of ways they can help from explaining the procedure to make it less daunting to telling jokes to put you at ease. I am so pleased the Endoscopy staff were able to make your first visit a positive experience and I will be sure to pass on your kind words to the team in Endoscopy.
