"A 3 day stay in AMU"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

Hello, I got admitted to the Acute Medical Unit on bank holiday Monday in August with suspected meningitis. I'm absolutely terrified of hospitals, but all the staff were really kind - especially the nurses who couldn't have been more reassuring - down to the cleaning staff who got rid of a massive spider from my room for me! A doctor was around to explain what was going on clearly and simply and what the next steps would be. I felt reassured and well looked after the whole time I stayed. Only 1 small negative was that I was forgotten from the lunch round one of the days and the man who chased it for me forgot to come back so I was quite hungry by dinner! Not a major thing and wouldn't put me off speaking positively about my experience (as much as I can considering how ill I was!) Thanks, Carrie

Dear Carrie Thank you for sharing what must have been a terrifying experience with us. I do hope you are now on the road to recovery. I was pleased to hear that the nursing staff were able to reassure you during such a worrying time, the cleaning staff were able to rid your room of spiders and the doctor was able to explain clearly and simply what was going to happen during your stay. I was concerned to hear that you missed one of your meals and you went hungry on that day, this should not have happened and I am sorry this was part of your experience. I will pass on your comments to be shared with the team and once again thank you for taking the time give us your feedback. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you are soon back to full fitness. Regards Sue Mellor Head of Patient Engagement
