"My visit to Worthing A&E, 15/09/14. Unsafe..."

About: Worthing Hospital

At a building site in Portslade I was cutting some plastic when one hand slipped & my"safety knife" (no sharp point just a cutting edge) let me down; "a bad workman blames his tools"? Anyway I was left with an inch long cut on my left hand which had bled a lot. The staff at your A&E from the first person I spoke to on reception to the nurse practitioner who investigated my wound and provided initial treatment mixed professionalism, compassion and responsive good humour. Didn't absorb any names of staff properly, guess I was a bit stressed, but they were ALL great! The nurses responded to my concerns and explained the mechanics of my injury in simple terms. They showed real sympathy regarding how it could impact my ability to go back to work as it is not a straight forward injury. Thanks very much Worthing A&E dept.

We very much appreciate your positive comments following your visit to our A&E department and hope your injury did not impact too greatly on your ability to return to work. Our A&E staff take pride in the way they treat and care for their patients and will be delighted to hear that you found them professional, compassionate, responsive and sympathetic. Your feedback has been forwarded to both the Clinical Director and Matron of A&E who will be delighted to share it with their teams.
