"Appendectomy"

About: The Whittington Hospital

I was extremely impressed with the speed and quality of service I received from the staff at the Whittington a few weeks ago when I checked myself in to A&E with suspected appendicitis. I was seen by a nurse within ten minutes, a doctor within 20 minutes and a surgeon within an hour or two. I also received a range of tests, including a scan, all done efficiently and respectfully. I may well have been lucky with the timetable on the day, but I arrived at 9am and was in theatre by 2pm! I was also lucky enough to be operated on by a surgeon using keyhole surgery, so my recovery time was much quicker. (I understand that had my slot been bumped to the evening, a different surgeon would have performed an open appendectomy, requiring up to six weeks off work, so that does seem a bit of a lottery!) I was able to go home the following afternoon, and I have since made a full and problem-free recovery. Very grateful thanks to all involved in my care at the Whittington - I was very impressed and have said as much to friends and family!
