"Different care levels for men and women"

About: Epsom Hospital

I had the need to stay for 36 hours after an emergency attendance, The hospital is organised and I was treated well. However, I was staggered to find the hospital still uses sexist job titles and do nothing to encourage male employees. This means that men have no choice with the sex of the health professional they have to attend to them. Please stop using the name sister or matron. They are outdated. You do not use brother or patron. Please use gender neutral job titles which will help you recruit more men and also provide better care for all your patients.

Thank you for your feedback. We are absolutely committed to equality, and so we are sorry to hear your thoughts on this matter. Like other hospitals, our Matrons can be male or female (as can midwives), and on the wards, we have sisters (female) and charge nurses (males). If you would like to raise the issue of gender neutral job titles further, please get in touch with our Patient Advice and Liaison Services (PALS) team on 020 8296 2508 or by email at pals@esth.nhs.uk.? Many thanks.
