"Doctors were arguing in front of me"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

In the beginning of January I broke my leg playing football. When attending the hospital one doctor was very nice and helpful. However, another doctor refused to do what was asked of them. I heard them arguing about whether to manipulate my ankle. When I was in pain and distressed it was very upsetting to witness them arguing. Eventually I had my leg manipulated and was admitted to hospital. Then I was operated on the next day with screws and a plate put in my leg. When I was discharged from hospital, I was not seen by any doctor explaining what would then happen. One of the nurses mentioned that the pins had to be out in nine weeks. This was disgusting as I didn't know what was happening. If I was to improve things , I would make sure better communication took place between doctors and patients as my experience of this was let down.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on this website and I am very sorry to read of the problems you encountered at such a distressing time.

It is also disappointing to learn that you were not given information regarding after care following your discharge.

We would very much like to talk to you about your care and treatment so that this can be looked into in more detail. If you would like to do so, please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01709 307646.

Thank you once again for your post.
