"Cleanliness needs improving"

About: The Whittington Hospital

I was referred to the casualty recently. I was seen very quickly (probably due to the nature of my condition). I was very very impressed with the young guy who was able to take my blood and the young doctor (who was incredibly knowledgeable and tested for everything - it seems). I tend to be a bit nervous in hospital so when one of the guys came to take my blood pressure I asked him to turn the display around so that I could not see it. Unfortunately he refused...which would not have helped the result! I was transferred to ISIS ward afterwards whilst awaiting a final result. The ward seemed really quite bleak and, from what I saw the standard of cleanliness could do with some improvement. The windows were all filthy dirty. Perhaps the budget doesn't stretch to window cleaning...but this would make a huge difference (I think) to a patient's recovery and relaxation (if they could gaze out of a clean window). Also - I was asked many, many times about my condition when, if my notes had been read they would have seen what the problem was.

Thank you very much for your comments, which we’ve passed onto our emergency department (ED) and Isis teams. Our colleagues in ED are taking part in a programme of training to improve patient experience and to ensure that they are always responsive to patients’ emotions and concerns. Following your comment about the windows in Isis, our estates team have looked into this and discovered that whilst our windows are cleaned twice a year, Isis has been missed recently. We have now contacted the window cleaning company to come back to the hospital site and clean them. Thank you for pointing this out.
