I was referred to the casualty recently. I was seen very quickly (probably due to the nature of my condition). I was very very impressed with the young guy who was able to take my blood and the young doctor (who was incredibly knowledgeable and tested for everything - it seems). I tend to be a bit nervous in hospital so when one of the guys came to take my blood pressure I asked him to turn the display around so that I could not see it. Unfortunately he refused...which would not have helped the result! I was transferred to ISIS ward afterwards whilst awaiting a final result. The ward seemed really quite bleak and, from what I saw the standard of cleanliness could do with some improvement. The windows were all filthy dirty. Perhaps the budget doesn't stretch to window cleaning...but this would make a huge difference (I think) to a patient's recovery and relaxation (if they could gaze out of a clean window). Also - I was asked many, many times about my condition when, if my notes had been read they would have seen what the problem was.
