"Hip replacement surgery"

About: Wansbeck Hospital

I work full time and was very pleased that I could go for initial X-rays on my way home from work without an appointment and better still I didn't have to wait too long. I was surprised and pleased that I could choose to see the consultant in the evening this is an excellent service for people who work during the day ! The consultant was brilliant and explained everything clearly so that I was fully aware of the risks and benefits and I felt able to make an informed decision about elective surgery. The occupational therapists loaned me every piece of equipment that I might need, prior to surgery I had declined a step to get in the shower but later changed my mind the step arrived the day I was discharged. I was measured and shown how to use everything. The surgery went well I had a few problems back on the ward with low blood pressure but the staff and physiotherapist s were excellent and helped me to recover quickly. I was offered further physiotherapy when I was discharged and I made a fast and full recovery the new hip has made a huge difference to my life. All the staff without exception were professional knowledgable, kind and very helpful. The ward was clean and the food was good and the experience was so much better than I ever imagined it would be!

Dear Julie,

For some reason - we're not entirely sure why - we've discovered that a few reviews about the hopsital that were posted a number of months ago have gone unnoticed and unnanswered?

I am sorry - your lovely feedback was one of them!! I'm working with the team at Patient Opinion and NHS Choices to understand how / why this may have happened. Please forgive me for being so slow to repond.

However belated, I wanted to thank you so much for sharing your story of your orthopaedic care with us. I am delighted it all went so well for you and that all the staff you came into contact with were kind, supportive and helpful.

We do get a lot of very positive feedback about the service and I know the team take great pride in monitoring their work to ensure it is as good as it needs to be at all times.

Five months down the line, I do hope you are continuing to feel the benefit of your new hip and that your recovery has gone from strength to strength.

With all best wishes, Annie
