I attended the children's A&E department with my child. It was early morning child ( 5 years old) was vomiting, had nausea and very painfully tummy pains, so intense, they were rolling around on the floor in A&E, crying. A&E dept was empty and was advised we would be seen quite quickly- over 3 hours later child still vomiting and screaming in pain- we waited over 4 hours before any medical assistance was given,5ml of calpol- which was quickly vomited back out. Even though I pointed out that it was highly unlikley it would have any effect as the main concern should be to stop the vomiting. By this time I was distraught watching my child in such a state, she progressively got weaker due to wreching and vomiting so much and started to pass out due to exhaustion. It was 5 hours before anything was done to help with the vomiting. It was the worst and probably the most distressing experience as a parent. There was no empathy or concern shown by the staff in this department, especially concerning as this was childrens A&E Dept.
