"The Hospital is in the town centre"

About: Cheltenham General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The Hospital is in the town centre

What could be improved

A Dam good CLEAN! would help. Was on MAU, what a smell, looks like only BANK staff are used. My partner dropped some personal stuff off in the morning, we were talking, and a staff member asked him to leave, as not visiting time! He was only on the unit 5 mins, to drop clean underwear off! and check on me!

Anything else?

During my care at Cheltenham General, it would have been nice to be treated with respect, as a human, and not a lump of meat! Needed a tube downstairs to wee, would have been nice if the curtain was closed! afterall it is a mixed ward.

Would also have been nice to have a same sex nurse do the insert! I did ask, but told NOT TO BE SILLY!

Thank you for your comments and we are sorry if you were unhappy following your experience in our hospital.

We are concerned that you felt that cleanliness was not up to the standards we aspire to, especially as we received an unnannounced visit by the Care Quality Commission in February and subsequently were given a full and clean bill of health with regards to cleanliness. The inspection involved unplanned visits to a number of wards, reviewing well over 40 policies and procedures and interviewing a range of staff.

Preserving the dignity of our patients is of high importance to us and we are sorry if you felt that you were not treated in this way.

Whenever possible, if a patient asks for a same sex nurse to perform personal care, we would try to make sure that this happens. However, sometimes this may not be possible.

If you would like to discuss your comments further, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0800 0193282.
