I chose Springfield Hospital after being recommended to it by my brother who had knee replacement surgery, also a friend that had both hips replaced. I could not have made a better choice. From my first point of contact in late March 2014, everything seemed very personal, you did not feel as if anything was to much trouble for them, all appointment times ran on schedule, no time delay anywhere, all as smooth as clockwork. On my admission day for the operation I was taken to my own personal room, with TV which was very nice to think I would not be disturbed by other patients. I elected to have the injection in my spine for the op instead of a general anaesthetic, they also gave me a sedative to make me feel drowsy. I was awoken by the nurse after 2 hours to be told it was all over, I could not believe it, I felt as if I had won the lottery, I did not know a thing about it. I had been dreading the day of the operation for 7 weeks from first being given a date. The attention during my 4 day & 3 night stay was wonderful throughout. Visitors were allowed from 9.00am to 9.00pm. My Surgeon explained everything to me as I had to have some extra pre-operative checks due to having heart by pass surgery in 1995, so no chances were taken by the team. I would love to thank them all personally for the wonderful treatment received, we here of some horror stories regarding medical care, but this was a class above any NHS hospital, but the operation was on the NHS not private, so I was very lucky to be given the option to be able to choose Springfield Hospital by the NHS. If you have an option to choose this Hospital, make it a no brainer, opt for Springfield, absolutely wonderful. All advice was given for post-operative activity & exercises with a number of booklets outlining the do's & don'ts.
