"Stroke Rehabilitation Ward"

About: St Peter's Hospital (Maldon)

We were delighted at the news that my father had the opportunity to spend a number of weeks of dedicated support on the rehabilitation ward at St Peters, after suffering a stroke and being admitted to Broomfield Hospital. My father was treated with dignity and the staff were always pleasant and happy to accommodate and work with my father with his rehabilitation. Rehabilitation covered physical aspects such as physiotherapy but also went to making cups of tea, handling money etc. He was in for a number of weeks and it was lovely that we were also able to take him out and visit the local area to give him a change of scene. There are 2 coffee shops on site. A small and large one. The larger one offered hot dinners at lunchtime which suited my mother in advance of her afternoon visiting session. The staff throughout were friendly and the porter even offered my mum a coffee in between visiting and opened up the main restaurant for her to sit in comfort! The private ambulance driver who dropped my father off from Broomfield also popped in a week later to see how he was doing because he was in the area! This meant a lot to my father and my family. Whilst the building looks a little oppressive on the outside, inside, the ward was modern, light, airy and clean and the staff did everything to make my father feel comfortable. He was offered 2 cooked meals a day and it was a refreshing change to be dressed in day clothes and sitting in a day room to take his meals, rather than pyjamas and sitting by the bed as in Broomfield. From day 1 of being on this ward it gave us all hope and confidence that there is life after having suffered a stroke! My father was also fortunate to share a ward with 2 other lovely male patients whom he spent a lot of time with and helped each other in their mental rehabilitation too. If anyone else is facing the unfortunate situation of a relative suffering the impacts of a stroke, we would not have any hesitation of endorsing the work carried out by the staff on the Stroke Rehabilitation Ward.
