"Maternity care"

About: North Manchester General Hospital

During my first pregnancy I was admitted to the MAU on numerous occasions and was never made to feel like a burden in the system. Every single one of the midwives and doctors I saw were kind and compassionate and I was informed about any decision that was to be made in good time. My experience during labour was similarly excellent. I spent time on the antenatal ward and the labour ward and was treated incredibly well and despite having a very long and distressing labour where I was incapable of making serious decisions, I was kept informed and given time to make choices about my care. My postnatal care was equally good. The midwives were always there to help and looked after both myself and my baby very well. I couldn't be happier with the care I received at the hospital and now I am having my second baby my initial instinct was to say I wanted to go back there despite it not being the nearest hospital. My only little gripe was that the midwife looking after me during recovery was quite rough and a little rude when showing me how to breastfeed. I also didn't have any other breast feeding support while I was in hospital which I think is something they need to work on if they want women to successfully breastfeed at home.
