I arrived at 8am at the Christopher Parish Building and was welcomed by staff and was soon made to feel at home with three other female patients in the Day Ward. I was impressed by the nursing staff as they carried out their duties with respect and efficiency. We had our ECG and blood pressure taken, then each patient's medical details were meticulously recorded and the procedure was explained with an opportunity to ask questions. I felt very comfortable with all that was going on for there was a lovely atmosphere with much joking about the 'one size fits all designer lingerie' and a kind lady even came to see me about my gluten-free lunch and suggested a jacket potato! In the lab there were lots of friendly people assisting the Cardiologist and I really felt quite at ease. The actual procedure was unbelievable - I never felt a thing, no discomfort but just the odd hot sensation when the dye went in. It was just amazing to be able to see one's own heart and arteries, etc. on the monitor! Back on the ward and well cared for by the nurses, I was given a much needed drink of coffee with a straw as I had to lay flat for about two hours. I had my 'special' lunch with a pot of coffee. The Cardiologist came round and discussed the results of the angiogram and told me to continue with the medication and he will see me in a few months' time at QEH at King's Lynn. The other patients went home and I rested there until my transport came for me at 6pm. It was a very long day but the whole experience was made pleasantly memorable by the kind, caring staff. Nothing was too much trouble and I cannot praise them enough - they were fantastic!
