"A&E no doctors why?"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

I took my daughter to A and E she had OD on a load of tablets got there before 4am only to be told there were no doctors on duty till about 8am , so I would have to wait or go elsewhere . How can an A and E department be run without any doctors , this is ridiculous . When I parked my car a lady did come out and tell me there were no doctors , but silly me, I did not believe her as she set off to go to the hospital A and E in Woolwich .Surely there should be cover all the time . It will always be my mind, should I have to go to A and E . Maybe next time I will ring first to find out if there are any doctors on duty.

We would like to offer our total reassurance that, at all times there are doctors on duty within the Accident and Emergency Department covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All hours are covered by Emergency Doctors, who during out of hours have access to contact the on call consultant and other specialities should the need arise. At no time is the Accident and Emergency Department left unstaffed and we do apologise if you were given this impression. We would be more than happy to look into this further and would ask that you contact our PALS team on 01322 428382 or via email pals@dvh.nhs.uk. Kind regards The Communication Team Darent Valley Hospital
