"I am severe pain - discharged by rude Dr"

About: East Surrey Hospital

The nurse and student paramedic who I saw were excellent. They listened, and had great bedside manner nothing was too much trouble, when taking blood very respectful. The Dr was rude, patronising and dismissive !! I have had severe abdominal pain, blood in urine, vomiting green at the hospital. I was sent from my GP due to severe abdominal pain which has got worse. I presented with blood in urine pain and tummy distended, and fever. When the Dr came to see me, I was really distressed and in pain. He asked if I have constipation, when I said I hadn't eaten ... he said I wasn't answering the question. 'you need to answer the question... we cant' get anywhere like this... ' Perhaps he thought he was interrogating a criminal who was guilty of something. He went away and then came back, as I was very distressed and in pain and upset. And he examined my tummy. And said it was soft. I said I had pain where the swelling was i and my tummy is distended and had vomited green. The previous day, I had an ultrasound, that confirmed I have a 5 cm cyst in the right kidney and that my bowels are active and distended . The doctor made me feel so much worse, when i asked if i could speak to another dr please. he refused and said he is in charge and he runs the place, no. I went to A&E , as i am in so much pain and he made me feel so much worse saying that i was not acute and shouldn't be there. I need to go to my GP and not be in A and E. He told me that I could not see another Dr and I would have book in again to see another Dr and the doctors don't have time to see me. He said it is not acceptable to ask to speak another dr. I told him I found it stressful the way he was talking to me and he went off and said I was being discharged and 'he was in charge.' want did he want some tap my shoulder and hold me hand. I sad i just wanted to speak another dr not questioning his competence as i found our encounter very stressful. He just left. I cant believe he is a professional. After a few minutes i saw a female Dr walk by my cubicle I decided to approach a female DRr, and if i could speak to another dr kindly. A while after a young Lady who had a much better bedside manner, came in and asked how I was. And told me to take pain killers and laxative and that there is nothing they can do, and my blood test was normal. I need to go to my gp. I asked for the ultrasound report which she did provided. I am so shocked at how the "dr in charge" didnt take time to speak and listen to me. and had no empathy, made fun of what I was saying .. eg when i said I was in pain for 2 months and its got worse and been taking parcentoma and buscopan he said they aren't real pain killers. Also had I not slept for 2 months from being pain ? I am in shock and pain, no hope for the NHS sadly :(

Dear Anonymous I was sorry to read your comments about your visit to our A&E department and your unhappiness with the way you felt you were treated by the doctor. If you would like to get in touch with me at tasha.gardner@sash.nhs.uk and give me some more details I will pass your feedback on to the matron and consultant in charge of the department. kind regards Tasha Gardner Communications Manager Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust
