"Thank you!"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus

I would like to say a huge "thank you" to all of the staff at the QMC who made me feel very welcome, relaxed, cared for and at ease when I came in on the 22nd May 2014 to EC24 for my wisdom tooth removal. When I came into the main entrance I asked for directions and the lady behind the reception desk was smiling and very helpful. Once on the ward I was greeted by the receptionist, she was very friendly and showed me to my bay (Green Bay, number 2) from there I was checked over by 2 nurses, again very polite and patient. The anaesthetist put me at ease (it's very scary putting your life in someone else's hands) he has a great personality and takes his time to answer any questions or fears you may have. The surgeon again was very professional and thorough, she went through all of the details of the procedure, including the risks which gave me confidence and an opportunity to ask any questions about the procedure. The porter was great, he was very good at taking my mind off where I was going by asking questions about me, my job ect and what I would usually be doing on a Thursday (it made the short journey to theatre a bit more bearable!) a member of staff who works at the theatre reception was lovely, she was personable and talkative, again making the wait to go into theatre more bearable. When it was my turn to go in the person who explained what would happen put me at ease, he said I was going in with the A Team who would look after me, this made me laugh. When in theatre I felt a bit overwhelmed, there were a lot of people and equipment in there and different people were doing different things to me but the whole time I was informed what was happening and because everyone was talking to me I was distracted and felt at ease, it really helped that I'd spoken to / met both the surgeon and anaesthetist prior to going in, they were both smiley and friendly which helped ease my nerves. Once I woke up in recovery I was a little bit emotional (felt a bit silly but was relieved it was all over) the recovery nurse was lovely, she was very friendly and caring. When I was back on the ward (with the porter's help) the nurses were great, they have me pain relief as soon as I asked for it and assisted me to the loo, I was offered something to eat and the lady who served to food was fabulous, she gave me more than I chose just incase I couldn't eat some of it lol! The nurses discharged me with a full compliment of pain relief and I left the hospital full of gratitude with how if been treated, people are very quick to complain when things go wrong and I just wanted to share my excellent experience of my visit to the QMC. I even wrote a "thank you" status on my Facebook. I hope my feedback reaches the CEO of the hospital and my comments are passed back to each and every member of staff who looked after me. Thanks again, keep up the excellent work you do!
